Skyscrapers Lee Changsub
Born in Seoul in 2007, Lee Chang seob was captivated by skyscrapers at the age of 9 after reading a special episode on skyscrapers in the magazine Science Boy. He began looking up skyscrapers in various science magazines and books, and produced his own drawings of iconic skyscrapers around the world. He first practiced drawing lines—the basic element of skyscraper drawing—and was disappointed when they did not turn out as expected. Today, he has mastered the skill of line-drawing. In addition to sketching, Lee collected data on skyscrapers and visited actual sites to make his drawings more detailed and accurate. The first skyscraper that he drew was Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world. Lee¡¯s lo ve f or sky scrapers na turally led t o d esign, a nd he has designed more than 20 skyscrapers in the past three years. They include a building equipped with an elevator moving faster than the KTX, a building with an entire floor that is an eco-friendly jungle, a building made using a 3D printer and drones, and an apartment accessible by private planes. He added information on materials, structure, design principles, and construction methods based on extensive reading of construction books. His first masterpiece, completed at age 10, was a tower in the shape of a pen. Unfortunately, the original drawing was lost and could not be included as part of this compilation. This book, titled Shining, Shimmering Skyscrapers, features 71 sketches and drawings of skyscrapers and 12 unique designs by Lee. It is the d oor t o Lee ¡¯s world of construction, which he shaped from 2015 to 2018.
